Windfenster explained
How Windfenster works
Wind, gusts, rain, temperature and cloud cover at a glance – matched to your boat or board and experience.
Weather that fits you
Windfenster is AnkerKlar’s free sailing and windsurfing weather app. Compare wind, gusts, rain, temperature and cloud cover for your area. Choose a place or water body, then your boat or board and your experience.
The recommendations and weekly overview help you find a suitable time on the water. Set From and Until to allow for work or your rental’s opening hours. You can choose one, two, four or six hours. Two-, four- and six-hour windows may be up to one hour shorter at the end when your selected Until time or sunset comes first. For four and six hours, recommendations prefer longer windows before comparing their scores.
What the values mean
Wind and temperature are time-weighted averages for the complete window. Gusts and rain probability each use their highest hourly value; rainfall is added across the window. Cloud cover represents the average condition and does not affect the score.
The clock, map and weather readings automatically run through the window from its beginning. Use the clock to pause and resume playback. The score continues to rate the complete window.
How your rating works
The four weather factors produce a score for each window. It considers more than whether there is wind: the conditions need to suit your boat or board and your experience.
Strong gusts, heavy rain or very light wind can cap the overall score. For windsurfing, average wind outside the selected profile can cap it too.
The score shows how well conditions match your profile. It is neither a probability nor a safety clearance. Even the best available window can be a poor fit.
